on december 11, 2007 the polish government chose a winner in the design competition for the polish pavilion at the 2010 world expo in shanghai. the winning entry was design by architects wojciech kakowski, marcin mostafa and natalia paszkowska. their building is inspired by traditional polish folk art paper cut-outs reinterpreted in a contemporary fashion. the idea was generated when the team sought to create a 'cultural ideogram' that would signify the country of origin in an iconic way. the project focuses on exploring the importance of the personal experience between buildings and people. the ramp that is created by the folded exterior enables visitors to climb onto the roof of the building, making the entire building a function exhibition space.

A Venezuelan self-taught paper engineer goes by the name of Yoshi makes beautiful complex paper patterns simply by folding and cutting paper. Inspired by Hindu and Muslim architecture, he has created a line called “An Abstract View” that is so breathtaking! The images shown here is part of this lovely series.

Daniel Schipper who is a graduate from the Design Academy in Eindhoven (south of the Netherlands) discovered origami when he was assigned a class project to create a homeless shelter. When one is homeless, easy transport becomes a key design element. If you are lucky, you might have a sleeping bag; otherwise maybe you might consider Mr. Schipper’s shelter made from misprinted milk packaging.

And a self-supporting folding greenhouse; he writes "A light-weight, flexible, modular greenhouse especially suitable for small spaces like cityhouses, balconies, roof terraces or town gardens. My folding greenhouse is a frameless folding construction made of different components of recyclable plastic which can be folded flat or expand when required."
